Almost everything we buy or use today tells us how we can / should recycle it. It is a widely accepted and respected practice. In certain countries, it is in fact illegal to sell some products without sharing appropriate recycling information.
However there is one area where we often see people shy away from recycling. Ideas.
When it comes to ideas, strategies, we often see leaders demanding fresh ideas, something that has never been done before. This quest for fresh ideas, often sends the humble strategist on a wild goose chase in his / her head. We start thinking of wild, radical, fancy, shiny ideas that would please our leaders and earn us the valuable pat on the back.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not against “New Ideas” however the fact remains, that almost all ideas are inspired. Every idea is either a recycled or an upcycled version of an existing idea. That’s my message, while we consider Authenticity is invaluable; we must all embrace the fact that originality is non-existent.
So the next time you see someone inspired by your tweet, Linkedin Post or blog article, don’t frown upon them or look them down. Accept it, embrace it, in fact be proud of it because you inspired someone. Don’t tax your brain worrying about getting credited for the idea, because your thoughts are precious. #MoveForward
